The humble tea towel is one of Third Drawer Down's signature artist products. A practical and fun way to dry the dishes, it can also be stretched onto a canvas at your local framer and double up as an affordable artwork for your home.
Third Drawer Down Studio and New Museum have worked in a collaborative license to produce the Chris Ofili Afromuses (Couple) tea towels. They were produced for Night and Day (2014), an exhibition showing at the New Exhibition Museum in New York.
Afromuses in its entirety presents over 181 watercolors created by Ofili between 1995-2005. None of the works are intended as actual representations of real people. Instead, they are figurative expressions. These figures emerge from Ofili's personal references and impressions of memory, day-to-day life and art history.
The watercolors were digitally printed onto the tea towels preserving the vibrancy of the original colours. With a customised border, these tea towels are intended as a set but are sold individually.
This product is produced in collaboration with The New Museum and is unavailable to New York wholesalers during the exhibition.
